Making Healthy Food Choices In Our Busy Lives

You already know how important healthy food is to you and your family. But how can you make the best choice in your busy life?

You’re happy that confusing life doesn’t mean every meal has to be fast. Sometimes healthy changes are difficult but with little planning and technical knowledge.

Here are some tips to help you and your family make healthy choices:

1.  Avoid temptation. Walking into the store with good intentions, but with bags full of unhealthy foods, is easy. Unfortunately, our will is weak, especially if we have years of training to buy junk food.

• If you never get hungry. This way you won’t make unhealthy choices because they look good right now.

• Get rid of unhealthy foods in your home. If they are not there, you will not be tempted to eat them.

• Think of healthier options for your family’s unhealthy foods. Instead of high-calorie chips, try comets or rice cakes. Low-calorie pudding or frozen yogurt is the best option for fatty ice cream.

2.  Eat fast and healthy meals at home. When you are tired at the end of the day and realize that you still need to feed your family, you can easily go to a fast food chain and put the fast food on the table. It can save time, but it won’t save your health – or your pocketbook!

The important thing is that there are many easy, fast and healthy foods you can make at home. It takes some planning, but you will be more satisfied, you will save and you will also be healthier.

• Search online for quick, easy recipes made with all-natural ingredients. Most recipes can only be made in 5 minutes or less with only 5 ingredients. Taking time to do some research on recipes can help your health. Then, after finding a “hit” with your family, save the recipe in the book or on your computer.

3. When cooking, make large batches and freeze remaining. That way, you will now have meals in the freezer that you can only melt, heat and serve. No muss, no fuss! This is the right way to enjoy “fast” food at home.

4. Eat more slowly. Because the brain takes about 20 minutes to detect a stomach-filling signal, if you eat too fast you’ll pack in a lot more food than you need. If you still think you are hungry, it is easy to choose poor food. If you slow down, you eat less and feel full.

• Set up a relaxing environment before sitting down for a meal. As children move to another door, avoid having a TV or eating food. Sitting quietly on the table will make it possible for everyone to enjoy their meals.

5. Make dinner time a social experience. Dinner should be to enjoy your company and enjoy the foods you eat.

When you start to look at meals as a social experiment, it is easier to choose the right foods. Suddenly you don’t have enough anxiety to jump to fix it.

Dinner is a good experience when you can enjoy all the healthy foods. Take time out to eat with family and enjoy real conversations with each other. Conversation naturally slows down your eating speed, while reconnecting with your family.

Using these techniques will bring a variety of health benefits to your family and teach your children a healthy lifestyle. If you have the time to plan and prioritize your dinner time, healthy eating options are a possibility in your busy life.
